Some Facts About Cancer

Breast cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer death occuring mostly in women whereas prostrate cancer is the cancer affecting most of the male population. Cancer is a group of diseases in which cells grow and divide without respect to normal limits, invade and destroy adjacent tissues and/or metastatize(spread to other locations in the body). These three malignant properties of cancers differentiate them from benign tumors [unharmful], Although benign tumor types are capable of becoming malignant.

Nearly all cancers are caused by abnormalities in the genetic material of the transformed cells. These abnormalities may be due to the effects of carcinogens, such as tobacco smoke, radiation, chemicals, or infectious agents. Aflatoxin B1, which is produced by the fungus Aspergillus flavus growing on stored grains, nuts and peanut butter, is an example of a potent, naturally-occurring microbial carcinogen. Certain viruses such as Hepatitis B and human papilloma viruses (HPV), Epstein Barr virus have been found to cause cancer in humans. The first one shown to cause cancer in animals was Rous sarcoma virus, discovered in 1910 by Peyton Rous.

Benzene, kepone, ethylene dibromide, asbestos, and the waste rock of oil shale mining have all been classified as carcinogenic. Vinyl chloride, from which PVC is manufactured, is a carcinogen and thus a hazard in PVC production.

Other cancer-promoting genetic abnormalities may be randomly acquired through errors in DNA replication, or are inherited, and thus present in all cells from birth. Genetic abnormalities found in cancer typically affect two general classes of genes. Cancer-promoting oncogenes are often activated in cancer cells, giving those cells new properties, such as hyperactive growth and division, protection against programmed cell death, loss of respect for normal tissue boundaries, and the ability to become established in diverse tissue environments. Tumor suppressor genes are often inactivated in cancer cells, resulting in the loss of normal functions in those cells, such as accurate DNA replication, control over the cell cycle, orientation and adhesion within tissues, and interaction with protective cells of the immune system.

The age of peak incidence of cancer in children occurs during the first year of life. Leukemia is the most common infant malignancy, followed by the central nervous system cancers and neuroblastoma. The remainder consists of Wilms' tumor, lymphomas, rhabdomyosarcoma (arising from muscle), retinoblastoma, osteosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma. Teratoma is the most common tumor in this age group, but most teratomas are surgically removed while still benign.

Some of the symptoms seen in cancer are as follows:

Anorexia: lack or loss of appetite

Cognitive dysfunction: difficulty with thinking ability, including memory loss, distractibility, difficulty in performing multiple tasks (multitasking), and trouble with arithmetic and language skills.

Dyspnea: defined, as a sensation of uncomfortable awareness of breathing, is one of the most frightening and distressing symptoms as well as one of the most common symptoms experienced by patients with cancer.

Fatigue: Fatigue is often reported as the most common symptom that individuals with cancer experience.

Hormonal disturbances: Changes in hormone levels are a common effect of cancer treatment for many men and women. These hormones include estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. The result of these changes can be one or more symptoms, from hot flashes, bone weakening, mood, sleep and skin changes (for men and women), to changes in the vagina and urination (for women).

Neutropenia: Neutropenia is an abnormal decrease in neutrophil cells (type of white blood cells that help fight infection) that occurs as a result of certain cancer treatments.

Peripheral neuropathy: described as a burning, tingling, and numbing type of pain in the hands and feet.

Sexual dysfunction: inability to fully enjoy sexual intercourse.

Other symptoms that can be seen include:

A change in bowel habits, Blood in your stool, Nausea and Vomiting.

Unexplained anemia, Bone Complications, Lymphedema

Breast lump or breast discharge, Unusual vaginal bleeding or discharge, Lumps in the testicles

A change in urination, Blood in the urine

Hoarseness and fever due to the disease affecting their immune system, the cancer itself, or a response to treatment. Fever normally occurs as the cancer progresses.

Persistent lumps or swollen glands

Obvious change in a wart or a mole

Indigestion or difficulty swallowing

Unexpected weight loss, night sweats, or fever

Continued itching in your anus or genitals, Non-healing sores

Headache, Back pain, pelvic pain, bloating, or indigestion

Birth injury Weight lifting living to 100

A brief overview of prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is a disease caused by the mutation of cells in the prostate that begin to increase in increasing numbers. Prostate cancer can develop at any age, but it is more common in older men and risks increase dramatically with age. In some people, cancer can develop unnoticed and the men dying from other causes, but if caught early prostate cancer has a 90% cure rate. Therefore it is important that people go to the doctor annuallyDemonstrations.

Signs / symptoms

Men are often unaware that they have prostate cancer until the later stages of the disease, unless they go into a regular screenings. This is because prostate cancer at an early stage is asymptomatic (no symptoms). The first symptoms of the disease are often bladder obstruction and are comparable to the signs and symptoms in patients with BPH can be seen (see p. 18). Rectal obstruction can also occur, what causes problems with bowel movement during defecation.

Later stages of the disease frequently results in a greater variety of symptoms, because at this point the cancer is often metastatic (spread) to another area of the body such as bone or lymph nodes. Signs and symptoms of the later stages of prostate cancer include:

Screening / Diagnosis

Screening and diagnosis is the same for both BPH and prostate cancerCancer. Procedures include the following:

* Digital rectal examination (DRE): palpitation of the prostate through the anal canal can detect enlargement

* Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood tests: Increased levels of PSA in the blood may be evidence of cancer

* Bone pain

*), Edema (swelling of the lower extremities

* Enlarged lymph nodes in the groin, under arms or the neck enlarged liver

* Fractures

* MentalConfusion (in severe cases where the cancer has spread to the brain to see)

* Exclude transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) ultrasound examination of the testes, prostate, kidney and other diseases or to confirm BPH or cancer.

Treatment

The treatment of prostate cancer depends on the stage of cancer, the effect of treatment, age, general health and life expectancy of the individual. Men who are diagnosed and treated in theearly stages of prostate cancer have a 90% chance of completely disease.41 Although complete recovery is not so easy in the later stages of cancer, treatment can prolong the life expectancy, reduce tumor size to relieve the pain and heal. Treatment options include both surgical and non-surgical procedures.

Surgical Treatments

* Prostatectomy-the partial or complete removal of the prostate.

* Transurethral resection

* Cryotherapy --Procedure, in which the prostate exposed to freezing temperatures. During the procedure, needles are inserted into the prostate through the area between the scrotum and anus. After the needles are in place to produce the needles to destroy the icy temperatures of the prostate and all surrounding cancerous tissue. Note: The surgical treatment of prostate cancer is often a temporary loss of urine control and / or sexual dysfunction. Medicines are prescribed, can by yourDoctor to help reduce these side effects.

Non-surgical treatments

* Radiation therapy to destroy medical application of ionizing radiation on the DNA of cancer cells. Radiation is used to destroy or control the proliferation of malignant cells. The radiation is applied to the site of cancer (tumor, lymph nodes, etc.) and the surrounding tissue. This treatment is often used in combination with hormone therapy or chemotherapy.

* HRT hormone therapy includes theAdministration of specific hormones, such as steroids or drugs that inhibit the production or activity involving other hormones in the development of cancer. The agent in hormone therapy should be used to change gene expression of cancer cells, causing cells to cease its activities, or by promoting cell death.

* Chemotherapy Chemotherapy is the use of chemicals and antibiotics to kill cancer cells. Cancer is caused by that division uncontrollableCells. The chemicals are used during chemotherapy to target fast-dividing cells, so targeted cancer cells and not healthy cells of the body.

* Immunotherapy-Immunotherapy is a relatively new treatment that stimulates the body's own immune system to kill tumors.

Overview of the symptoms associated with pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic cancer symptoms are often difficult to recognize, diagnose, making it even more difficult, this potentially fatal disease. It is important to remember that many of the indicators will not present itself until after the disease is at an advanced stage. Keep reading to view a list of possible characters.

Stomach ache

Among the basic pancreatic cancer symptoms are an abdominal pain or pain is high. Patients often complain that the pain spreadsthrough the region and around the back. Many people go through these kinds of complaints often experience relief when they lean forward.

This type of abdominal pain is usually in the majority of patients (about 80%), but is usually only evident during the advance stages of the disease. Eating can often worsen the pain or cause increased discomfort.

Anorexia

Weight loss and anorexia are often typical symptoms associatedwith pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately, common signs are often associated with other disorders and diseases, particularly those related to digestion.

Painful or painless jaundice

Since pancreatic cancer can block the bile duct - which partly runs through the head of the pancreas - jaundice is a common symptom of the disease. Tumors of the pancreas, which are on development in general, the root of the development of jaundice, which is characterized by a yellowingthe skin.

Usually jaundice in patients with pancreatic cancer by dark urine, pruritus or itching is accompanied. About half of patients with pancreatic cancer pain local forms of the painful experience of the disease, jaundice, while the other half with an incurable disease or unresectable experience yellowing of the skin.

Trusseau Sign (blood clot)

Trusseau sign is causing a secondary pain that grumes or blood clots in the hepatic portal developed,Arteries, veins and abstruse superficial veins without warning. Although not exclusively in patients with pancreatic cancer, it is often associated with the disease.

Depression

Though not as exhaustively accounted or referenced, depression is a subtle side effect of pancreatic cancer. The clinical depression often develops even before the disease is detected. Doctors and researchers are still unsure of why and how to combine the two.

How is pancreatic cancerDiagnosed

Pancreatic cancer is known to be generally in accordance with the above symptoms diagnosed by either the patient or the supervising physician. Be judged by the indicators, the liver function tests and tests for CA19-9 - a marker for pancreatic cancer - often carried out.

CT and ultrasound are other common methods for the detection of pancreatic cancer and for the visible tumors or lesions identified. An endoscopic ultrasound or biopsy can also be used toto obtain and test tissue samples.

Pancreatic cancer screening

If you have two or more immediate family members (or three or more extended relatives) who are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer have symptoms, you should see your doctor about the screening and ask for the disease. Pancreatic cancer symptoms often do not present until it's too late so that early detection is crucial for vulnerable people.
